Students in Engineering Sciences learn to apply engineering principles, methods, and techniques to conceive, design, implement, and operate (CDIO) value-added engineering products, processes, and systems.

Our programs embrace project-based learning opportunities, working with real-world challenges and local industry partners. In fact, we have partnered with Siemens Technik Akademie Berlin to deliver the Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program, a comprehensive industry skill certification.

We offer a range of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering programs suited to the many interests of our mechanical and electrical engineering students.


2019 Sheridan Skills Competition

We're so excited for our second annual, expanded Sheridan Skills competition on March 4th. Previously a Skilled Trades event, this year we'll be introducing competitions in Applied Computing, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology and Business. Taking place at Davis Campus we will enjoy a day of witnessing and celebrating the accomplishments of our student competitors.

A full day event, participants will compete in discipline-specific competitions putting their skills and knowledge to the test. With competitions ranging from IT Network Systems Administration to Electrical and plumbing, to Automation & Control, Machining and Mechatronics, and IT Office Software Applications the day will be filled with camaraderie, excitement and application of concepts learned.

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

With increasing demand for mechanical engineering specialties in mechatronics and energy, Sheridan's School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology is responding and raising the educational bar.

Built on a CDIO (conceive, design, implement and operate) framework, the learning in this program is hands-on and practical in an industry-standard environment. On top of in class learning, students will participate in a mandatory four-month internship following which they will have an option of applying to the co-op program, adding one full year's worth of co-op work experience to their CV.

Offering an outstanding combination of theoretical and practical knowledge, the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering will be offered to the first cohort in September 2019.

2019 OACETT Outstanding Educator Award Nomination

Congratulations to Srinivas Ganapathyraju, Professor & Coordinator of Electromechanical Engineering Technology for being nominated for the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) Outstanding Educator Award. Srinivas’s students recognized his contribution to the training and education of engineering technicians and technologists here at Sheridan, and the success of our faculty does not go unnoticed. Congratulations Srinivas!

Michelle Chretien in The Pointer 2019

Michelle Chretien, Director of CAMDT was featured in an article from The Pointer, highlighting Sheridan’s place in the industry and Michelle’s impressive experience in CAMDT. The article dives deep into the role Sheridan plays in connecting students and faculty to work with manufacturing business partners and various projects under the CAMDT roof. Faculty member Srinivas Ganapathyraju was also featured in this article for his collaboration with student Carlos Paez for the Savaria Concord Lift project, funded by FedDev Ontario.

Dr Mozammel Khan Achievements 2019

Congratulations to Dr. Mozammel Khan, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Technology Professor/Coordinator for his recent achievements. Dr. Khan was honoured by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as Member of the Month twice in the last two months, and by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians (OACETT) as the Educator of the Year and as an honorary member. He
has also been nominated for the Order of Ontario, the highest civilian award of the Province.

Dr. Khan has contributed greatly to the education and success of our students, and we’re happy to see his outstanding research and education work is being recognized in the engineering industry. Congratulations, Mozammel!

Michelle Chretien in Sheridan Curiosities 2019

Representing CAMDT again, Michelle Chretien’s work as CAMDT’s Director was the focus for a recent article on the Sheridan Curiosities blog. Michelle is an expert on everything CAMDT, and shares the details about everything from new tech equipment, diversity in the field and the applied research projects coming out of CAMDT. Michelle plays a key role in matching students with real-world industry partnerships, where students practice their skills and get ready for the workforce. Spotlight Sheridan Capture the Wind 2019

On May 1st during Spotlight Sheridan, grade seven students from local schools came to visit the Applied Mechanics lab in the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Technology and participated in a hands-on workshop to learn about renewable energy called “Capture the Wind!” Students worked in teams and were given the challenge to optimize a small-scale wind turbine using different blades and blade angles to find out which set-up provided the most energy. The workshop ended in a friendly competition to see which team could generate the most energy. Thanks to everyone who joined us to explore the science behind wind energy!

MEET Faculty published in 2019 Proceedings Canadian Engineering Education Association Conference

Dr. Amjed Majeed, along with Zohreh Motamedi and Mouhamed Abdulla have co-authored a conference paper that has been published in the 2019 Proceedings Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACEG19) Conference.
