Highlights

Art Hives at Sheridan

Members of the Sheridan community came together to contribute to an exciting exhibition called collectiveEYEdentity, which opened May 10 with an Art Hive in the Trafalgar Library Learning Commons.

The collectiveEYEdentity exhibition will be on display there until August 15.

Sheridan’s Art Hive Initiative is led by Art Fundamentals faculty member Susan Beniston (MFA, ATR-BC, RCAT), who is a visual arts educator, a board-certified art therapist, and faculty peer coach with the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Graduating Student Awards 2019

Seven outstanding new artworks made by our talented graduating students in the Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design have been acquired by Sheridan through the Graduating Student Awards 2019 program.

Students and Alumni score big nominations at the annual Canadian Cinema Editors Awards

An impressive 11 Sheridan alumni and 2 current students are being recognized at the Canadian Cinema Editors Awards this month. Alumni from our Advanced Television and Film and Media Arts programs are nominated in 8 categories, with two of our Bachelor of Film and Television students, Brendan Barnard and Zachary Roth, chosen in the Student Merit Award Category for their work on After Animals (Barnard) and Rosie (Roth) respectively.

Four Game Design students and alumni take top spots in the Ubisoft NEXT 2019 Competition

Our Sheridan students and alumni took first, second, and third place in the Level Design category and third place in the Modelling category at the Ubisoft NEXT Competition, awarded in Toronto on May 8.

Sheridan College Ranks as number one Animation school in the World

Sheridan is the top animation school in the world, according to Animation Career Review’s 2019 rankings of the top international animation colleges in the world, excluding the U.S.

Animation Career Review considered more than 160 institutions outside of the U.S. and conducted its analysis by assessing academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of program, and value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness.

Animation Career Review released their top 100 international Animation school rankings with Sheridan in third place worldwide. The review said of Sheridan: "This is one of the most respected schools in the world by students and other schools alike."

Ronni Rosenberg

Ronni Rosenberg completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto in art and art history. After receiving an MFA in photography and printmaking from Pratt institute, she accepted a position in the Fine Art Department at the State University of New York at Stony Brook to design and develop the photography and printmaking studios in their newly constructed facility.

Maija Saari

Associate Dean
Film, Television & Journalism

Maija Saari is the Associate Dean for the Department of Film, Television and Journalism in the Faculty of Animation, Art and Design. Maija is responsible for a cluster of eight programs, including Media Fundamentals, Media Arts, Advanced Television and Film, Journalism-Print, Journalism-Broadcast, Journalism-New Media, Corporate Communications and Makeup for Media and Creative Arts.

Heather Whitton

Associate Dean
Material Arts & Design

Heather Whitton was appointed Associate Dean in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design in 2007.  She provides academic leadership for the following programs: Bachelor of Interior Design, Bachelor of Craft and Design (Ceramics, Glass, Furniture, Textiles and Industrial Design), Visual & Creative Arts diploma and advanced diploma, Interior Decorating diploma, Visual Merchandising Arts diploma and Art Fundamentals certificate.

Donna Braggins - Associate Dean of the Department of Design, Illustration and Photography at Sheridan College

Associate Dean
Design, Illustration & Photography

Donna Braggins is Associate Dean at Sheridan College, responsible for 5 programs including Design, Illustration, Photography, Interaction Design and Web Design. She has previously served as art director of Maclean’s and Canadian Business magazines and president of the National Magazine Awards Foundation.

Angela Stukator

Associate Dean
Animation & Game Design

Angela has over twenty years of experience in animation, film and digital media education at the post-secondary level. She studied in three countries, achieving a BA from Brock University, a MA from State University of New York at Buffalo, and a PhD from the University of Bristol. She has been at Sheridan College since August 2003.

Mary Jane Carroll

Mary Jane Caroll

Associate Dean 
Visual & Performing Arts

Mary Jane owned and operated her own interior design firm for 10 years with clients such as Cooper Corporation and Quorum Funding Corporation. Most recently, she developed a specialized post-diploma program at Sheridan called "Aging in Place Design Specialist".

Events and Exhibitions

Sheridan Spring Convocation 2019

Sheridan will launch over 6,000 new graduates in the fields of business, the arts, community service and technology at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario from June 10 to June 13. The 6,699 graduates will cross the stage over the course of four days and 11 ceremonies.

Oakville Film Festival

Sheridan will have a strong presence in this year’s Wilson Oakville Film Festival, which runs from June 20 to 23. The Film Festival, produced by the Oakville Festivals of Film and Art, aims to screen films that tackle diverse social issues affecting the community. Seventeen grads worked on seven of the featured films that will be screening at the festival.

CollectiveEYEdentity Exhibit and Art Hive

The Trafalgar Library Learning Commons is pleased to host the collectiveEYEdentity exhibit, curated by Professor Susan Beniston. To open the exhibit, the Sheridan community is invited to engage in an Art Hive on May 15th that reflects the theme of the show.
