Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL Plus)

Start your new adventure teaching English to second-language learners.

Sheridan's TESOL Plus program gives you the skills you need to teach English to speakers of other languages.

Learn to teach in multiple contexts

In Sheridan's Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL Plus) program, you'll develop a strong skill set that allows you to teach English to second-language learners in a variety of classroom settings and contexts, including international students in Canada and newcomers to Canada. TESL Canada Teacher Training Program Recognition is in progress.

Get practical experience

This program's two practicum terms give you the opportunity to apply your classroom learning in various teaching situations. You may teach ESL students at Sheridan, newcomers to Canada through our LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) program or students off-campus.

CELTA-connected faculty

All of our professors in this program are qualified CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) trainers, and one professor is also a CELTA examiner. This ensures that the education you receive in the TESOL Plus program meets the industry's rigorous standards. Our application for accreditation through TESL Ontario is also in progress.

Interdisciplinary learning

In addition to your core TESOL Plus courses, your elective options include three courses outside of your program of study: a Creativity and Creative Problem-Solving course or one of two business courses. This gives you the opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and to broaden your skill set.

Build an e-portfolio

Sheridan's TESOL Plus program gives you the opportunity to create an electronic portfolio containing your assignments, lesson plans and other resources. The e-portfolio allows you to learn various technologies that you'll use in your teaching career. Upon graduation, you can show your e-portfolio to potential employers to highlight your skills and make yourself more marketable.
