Become part of the solution
The demand for environmental technicians has never been higher. With an Environmental Technician diploma from Sheridan, you can build a successful career while helping to keep our air, water and land safe for future generations.
An outstanding program
Sheridan's Environmental Technician program stands out for its emphasis on chemistry and practical lab work. You'll learn the most sophisticated, up-to-date methods – the same procedures used in environmental science research and required by environmental laboratories, consulting firms and regulatory agencies.
In two years of direct, hands-on environmental science instruction you'll:
- Learn to gather samples in the field and analyze them in the lab.
- Develop a detailed understanding of current environmental regulations.
- Learn to apply pollution prevention and control processes.
Graduates may also work within the environmental or health and safety departments of companies that generate waste products, or with companies that provide the services and equipment to treat those wastes. Job responsibilities may include:
- Sampling and laboratory analysis
- Installing or operating pollution control processes
- Doing research and development
- Maintaining equipment
- Operating employee health and safety programs
- Providing technical service
- Conducting inspections and environmental audits
Some graduates choose to further their studies in Sheridan's Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technology programs. Some graduates go on to obtain university degrees, most commonly in chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental science. Depending on the university, and the choice of program, they may receive transfer credits for their study at Sheridan.
The majority of graduates go directly into the workforce with the skills to thrive – skills that are often paired with a passion for environmental protection. With an Environmental Technician diploma, you can build a successful career around important, meaningful work.
Graduates of Sheridan's Environmental Technician program learn so much chemistry that they're eligible for membership in the Chemical Institute of Canada.
Graduates have completed all the academic requirements for professional certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). Additional requirements for certification exist and are established by OACETT.
Environmental Technician program courses are held at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.
