Master the practice of professional photography.

Learning Outcomes

The successful completion of this program will enable the graduate to:

  • Develop appropriate and innovative solutions,working within the dynamics of the target market,with consideration for the requirements of an employer or client.
  • Plan and execute the creation of photographic imagery following an iterative process of research, ideation, visualization, analysis,production and evaluation.
  • Create imagery which meets the requirements of different media (e.g. print sequential and interactive media) and cross media applications.
  • Develop visual communication concepts appropriate for specific purposes and audiences (e.g. education/ information, different socio-economic consumer groups).
  • Incorporate the knowledge of photography theories, principles and historical practices into the conceptualization and development of effective photographs.
  • Participate effectively in the discourse of current photographic practices.
  • Integrate the principles of visual language and design into the creation and evaluation of one’s own work and the assessment of the work of others.
  • Integrate pictorial visual concepts with design parameters intended for a variety of social/cultural contexts (e.g. retail displays, galleries).
  • Produce photographic images which reflect critical understanding of contemporary visual culture (e.g. visual communications media, the built environment).
  • Create content for new and merging media that expands the boundaries of traditional photographic practice (e.g. moving, digital 3D and interactive media).
  • Define and develop themes for photographic bodies of work that (a) investigate and record the visual world and (b) explore and express ideas.
  • Analyze and complement textual content in photographic assignments.
  • Use a variety of technologies and processes to capture, manipulate, output, and manage photographic images.
  • Select the photographic format and process most appropriate to the goals of the project.
  • Plan and create projects employing existing and emerging digital media formats.
  • Exhibit effective leadership skills when working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Integrate knowledge of ethical and legal frameworks with effective business practices in dealings with clients, colleagues,suppliers and employees.
  • Evaluate career opportunities based on knowledge of the industry and current trends.
  • Apply project planning principles and processes in order to enhance business competitiveness.
  • Incorporate a variety of networking skills in order to build and sustain a professional practice.
  • Create a business plan to support the development and on-going operation of a photography business.
